Do you want to talk with people around the world, are you interested in foreign cultures? Language learning is a good thing then. The study of language acquaints students with cultures other than their own, deepens their understanding of their own culture, and prepares them for graduate study and many internationally- based careers. The French and Spanish programs are designed to introduce and develop the four basic language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students seeking college admission are highly recommended to complete a sequence of two years or more in one of the languages; students who intent to major at college in a field that requires a foreign language should consider completing a sequence of three or more years of a language in high school. If enrollment numbers indicate the need, fifth, fourth and possibly third-year classes may be combined between East and West. Teacher recommendation and/or a minimum grade of C- are required for advancement to the next level.
