ne Deficiency Disordertive, Key Club values.Biologically, each human needs a small amount of iodine in early life in order to develop normal brain structure. Regretably, millions of children in poor nations have died due to diets lacking iodine during the period of brain development. Many more millions have suffered from mental retardation due to IDD. And most ironically, the amount of iodine needed can be found in a mere ten cents' worth of iodized salt. The Kiwanis and Key Clubs, along with the rest of the K-Family, have singled out elimination of this disease as the easiest way the Kiwanis can save literally millions of lives and improve millions more. Our goal is to eliminate IDD by the year 2000, and this goal is well on its way to becoming a reality.
