The Aquila Chapter of the National Honors Society at Lapeer East High School
stands for National Honors Society and being a member is seen as a great accomplishment. NHS is a group of Junior and Senior students who have shown exceptional talent in the areas of academics, leadership, and service. It involves giving back to the community, the school, and the society itself. NHS members are pledged to adhere to and uphold the four mottoes of the society, Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Members are the schools premier students, acting in key positions within the school and the community, the society meets twice a month to discuss society business, and spread word of possible opportunities for service within the school and community. While the responsibilities of being in NHS are many, members enjoy a number of benefits that involve preferential treatment, and scholarship opportunities. Graduating members of NHS get to wear a stole emblazoned with the NHS logo during graduation exercises, and are favored strongly by most colleges and universities around the US.
